Official Site for The Nines
The official site for The Nines has opened, so mosey on over and have a look around. It has a brilliant high quality version of the picture we've seen before, and a couple of new tidbits on Elle's character, who is called Noelle. She is the daughter of Ryan Reynolds and Melissa McCarthy's characters, who face "car trouble deep in the woods". Noelle is the one who "uncovers information which leads to a difficult and irrevocable choice."

Will Elle Be At Sundance?
In a celebrity column for the Salt Lake Tribune, it was joked that Dakota and Elle may not be attending the Sundance Film Festival, where they both have films premiering next week. It reads "Child star Dakota Fanning ("Hounddog") and little sis Elle Fanning ("The Nines") are both in Sundance films. Neither are expected to be in Park City because, you know, they're busy. Finishing elementary school." However, Dakota has said in previous interviews that she will be there - "I'm so excited. I've never been somewhere where there's that much snow. I totally want to go skiing. I've heard skiing is superhard, but I'd like to try it", and unless Elle is filming, my hope is that she'll tag along. We'll find out next week!

Elle Knows Some Sign Language
For her upcoming film The Nines, Elle plays a deaf-mute girl, and she had to learn sign language especially for the role. Her mom and dad will be at Sundance to watch this movie in its debut, and support both Dakota and Elle. Director John August says "Elle is a very special young lady." Read the full article here.

In other news from The Nines, John August has announced that when the movie premieres, he will make parts of the script available online for everyone to read. If the film is ever released in cinemas, the full script will be posted!

More On The Nines
In the newly released production notes for The Nines, there is plenty to chew over. The director of the movie talks about what it was like working with her: "Elle is refreshingly normal and real. We'd play Crazy 8's while we were waiting for lights," and reveals that she was cast without auditioning, based on the recommendation of the film's editor (who had previously worked on Babel). The director also talks about Elle's lessons in sign language for the role - "I'd let the camera run and she could improv - in sign language - and never break the scene until we cut." The Nines premiere next Sunday, Jan 21.

New Movie Rumour: Vivaldi
Elle is rumoured to have a part in the upcoming biopic Vivaldi according to IMDB.com. The movie is about the life of Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi, who taught music to young girls and was eventually allowed to play his music to the Pope. The lead role, Vivaldi, would be played by Joseph Fiennes, and Elle would play Cristina. However, the part remains a rumour for now, until a different source confirms it.

This biopic follows composer Vivaldi as a young priest assigned to serve as music master of a school for the abandoned, illegitimate daughters of Venice's courtesans. He bonds with the girls, which leads to his landing a concert of his music before the Pope.

Elle's Very First Skiing Lesson!
Elle's first skiing lessonElle tried her hand at skiing for the very first time today, on the snowy slopes at Park City, Utah. She was all kitted out in a gorgeous pink one suit and some very twee spectacles! It was the first time skiing for big sister Dakota as well, but from the pictures it looks like both girls had a lot of fun. They were being instructed by the Olympic skiier Picabo Street, as part of the 'Picabo Ski Challenge'. Check the pictures in the gallery!

Read a Scene From The Nines
You can now read a scene from Elle's movie The Nines, which is premiering today. Scroll down to the scene called 'Part 3: Knowing'. You can read the description of how Elle plays a mute girl - even though she has no lines in the scene, her character Noelle has a lot to say. Her parents Gabriel and Mary are played by Ryan Reynolds and Melissa McCarthy. (But a warning for young kids - there are some curse words in the script).

Elle's Sundance Photographer Speaks
The photographer who took that gorgeous photoshoot of Elle with her castmates at the Sundance Film Festival has talked about what it was like photographing her. He says: "My personal favorite was Elle Fanning - Dakota's little sister. She was an adorable little girl, and really had fun for the camera. She was very well-behaved and a sweet girl. The cast pictures for that film, which also includes Ryan Reynolds, John August and Melissa McCarthy, were great. They had good chemistry and took some good shots."

New Movie: Hurricane Mary
Dakota's old movie Conquistadora is back from the grave, with a new title, and a very special new cast member! Elle has been cast to play alongside her big sister in the newly resurrected film Hurricane Mary, as the film has been re-named. Funnily enough, the girls will be playing disabled twin sisters called Alba and Anastasia Somoza. The film tells the story of their mother's fight to have the girls enrolled into a normal public school, despite their disabilities. Both girls suffer from cerebral palsy and are wheelchair bound. Production will begin on the film in September this year. It will mark a number of firsts for Elle - her first movie to film in New York, her first live-action acting alongside her sister, and her first time as a disabled character. Congratulations Elle! :)

Nominated at the Young Artist Awards
The brilliant year Elle had in 2006 is still bearing fruit for the little moppet, with her first two individual Young Artist Award nominations! She has been lauded in two categories - "Best Performance in a Feature Film: Young Actor Aged 10 or Younger", for her work in Babel, and "Best Performance in a TV Movie, Mini Series of Special: Supporting Young Actress" for The Lost Room. Our girl faces some stiff competition though, including Abigail Breslin and Chloe Moretz. Fingers crossed she can take it home! :)

Gideon's Gift Shooting Schedule
Gideon's Gift is just about to start filming - the tight production schedule begins next Monday February 19, so Elle should be jetting into New Mexico very soon, if she hasn't already arrived. The film has only a 30-day filming schedule, and as one of the leads, Elle will be on set for most of it. Execs have said that the film "will likely receive no more than a PG rating", and will probably stick to the family friendly rating of G. It will be in cinemas November 2007 for the Christmas holiday season - on a limited release at first, but if the response from audiences are good, it will expand to a wider audience later on. Hopefully we don't have to wait long for more news and pictures from this movie!

First Info on Day 73 With Sarah
Day 73 With SarahDay 73 With Sarah, a short film that Elle shot two years ago, is finally going to be shown to the public! It has been accepted to the 2007 South by Southwest Film Festival which is held in Austin, Texas from March 9-18. Hopefully this means more information about the movie will be revealed soon! It sounds like a great role for Elle, as her character is in the lead. The synopsis reads:

Day 73 With Sarah tells the story of a little girl who, with the help of her dead father, comes up with a plan to free her and her mother (Amber Heard) from her abusive stepfather, but the plan has unexpected consequences.

Rumoured Role: The Nutcracker
We had a nudge and whisper this week that Elle is set to appear in the upcoming film The Nutcracker! Better still, she would be in a leading role, playing the little girl Mary. Casting has been taking place in Los Angeles over the past few weeks, and Elle is tipped to be front runner for the part. The movie isn't listed on IMDB.com yet, but should be soon. It's still just a rumor at this point but we're pretty certain it could turn out to be true - and if so, big congratulations are in order for Elle! :)

{Update} Apparently Elle is not just front runner to play Mary in The Nutcracker - she has actually booked the part! Casting is now taking place for the other major roles in the film. It's yet to be confirmed officially but all signs are good! If true, this will take Elle all the way to Budapest, Hungary.

Another Change in Cheese Release
The release date for I Want Someone To Eat Cheese With has been changed yet again. The release date was previously set for June 6, but has been changed to September 21. Elle's Solo Appearance Hurricane Mary
In a new interview, Dakota noted mysteriously that she won’t actually be appearing onscreen with Elle in their film Hurricane Mary. Instead, "I'll be doing some voiceover work" she said, although it wasn’t explained precisely what she meant by this! Perhaps Elle will be playing both twins. That would be very unexpected, as the real-life twins this movie is based on are not identical. We’ll have to wait and see!

First Pic From Benjamin Button Set
Curious Case of Benjamin Button Elle's role in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button has finally been confirmed! It looks like she will wear a red wig in this film, since she is playing Cate Blanchett's character at age 6. I found a picture of her on the set, with Chandler Canterbury who plays Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt's character) at age 8. The pair don't have any scenes together, since the movie tells the story of a man who ages backwards, while the woman he loves grows up. That means all of Elle's scenes will be against Brad Pitt. Enjoy the new pic! It's so exciting to have this new role confirmed! Visit Chandler's site for more information on his part in the movie.

The Nutcracker Confirmed
Elle's role in The Nutcracker has been confirmed, with a couple more tidbits. The film will be directed by Andrei Konchalovsky, who is a Russian director, and produced by Noisette Film Productions. Elle in Deja Vu Deleted Scenes
Elle appears in deleted scenes on the Deja Vu DVD, explaining a lot more about her character. It seems that the majority of her scenes were left on the cutting room floor, which explains why our girl had so little screentime. Apparently in one of the scenes "we learn about a personal connection between Elle Fanning's [character] Abbey, and Claire". The Deja Vu DVD is released tomorrow, on April 24. Hopefully we can see some screencaps of Elle's deleted scenes soon!

New Movie: Phoebe In Wonderland
A little birdie told us Elle will play the lead role of eleven-year-old Phoebe Lichten in an upcoming film called Phoebe In Wonderland. This movie will start filming on May 30 in Long Island, New York, and while Elle's role is already in place, the other characters are currently being cast for. The movie tells the story of misunderstood Phoebe, and what happens to her when she is cast as Alice in a school theatre production of Alice In Wonderland. It's an exciting first for Elle because she has a tradition of playing other people's characters at a younger age, and this will be the first time she has other people playing her at a younger age! Her character is very unique in more ways than one. It's really a role to get excited about.

Here's a synopsis for this film. In the vein of "Finding Neverland," "Phoebe in Wonderland" is the fantastical tale of a little girl who won't - or can't - follow the rules. Confounded by her clashes with the rule-obsessed world around her, Phoebe seeks enlightenment from her unconventional drama teacher, even as her brilliant but anguished mother looks to Phoebe herself for inspiration... Elle's character, Phoebe, is described: 11 years old, Phoebe is mysteriously unable to follow rules. Thoughtful and dreamy, but definitely an oddball and recognized as such, Phoebe is a powerful enough actress that she wins the coveted role of Alice in her elementary school's production of "Alice In Wonderland," but her work in confronting and inhabiting a famous work of fantasy seems to push her fragile psyche closer towards the brink...

Another Guest Part on Criminal Minds?
According to TV.com, Elle will reprise her role as Tracey Belle in a new episode of Criminal Minds. The season two finale, No Way Out Part II, will air on May 16, and revolves around the main character Gideon, when the profilific serial killer Frank returns and murders Gideon's girlfriend. Aparently Elle returns in this episode. Keep in mind this is only a rumour at this stage - TV.com is edited and contributed to by fans, so not all the information on there is correct and there's a strong probability this isn't true. Other sites aren't listing Elle yet, but we'll see. Special thanks to Kate for sending us an email about this.

Babel Director Talks About Elle
In a new interview, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and Gael Garcia Bernal (Elle's director and co-star in Babel) talked about what it was like working with Elle and the differences in child actors across cultures. Says Gael, "There was a point in the film where the Mexican kids were playing tag with Nathan [Gamble] and Elle [Fanning], and they were just kids, they were mingling together. As a child you don’t question differences. They’re the first ones to reinforce the fact that we are all the same." Alejandro was impressed by the maturity shown by his young actors: "Elle Fanning is more mature than me I think, that’s scary sometimes, they are like little adults." Check out the full interview here - it's really interesting to read about how a director coaxes a performance out of children, and how different American children were from the young Moroccan actors.

Some New Benjamin Button Tidbits
Thanks to a really generous fan we have a lot more details on Elle's role in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button! Emma was an extra for two days during the film's production in New Orleans, and she tells us that Elle filmed her scenes last December and January. One of her scenes is a 'Family Day' at Benjamin Button's retirement home, where Daisy (played by Elle) is visiting her grandmother. Daisy has one cute scene where she does a cartwheel, and in another she is present at the Thanksgiving meal. You can read all of Emma's words on the fan stories page, including a really sweet anecdote of Elle's conversation with another actor as she has her make-up reapplied :)

Casting Phoebe In Wonderland
The finishing touches are being put on the cast for Phoebe in Wonderland before it begins shooting later this month. Bailee Madison has been cast as Phoebe's seven-year-old sister, Olivia, and Felicity Huffman has been cast as the girls' mother, Hillary. Currently, the film is looking for a stand in for Elle, having advertised for a SAG actor under 4'10 with blonde hair (giving us the most recent clue about Elle's height). The film's schedule runs for a month, beginning May 30, and wrappping up on June 30. Keep your eyes peeled for Elle sightings if you live in New York!

More Casting For Phoebe In Wonderland
Firstly is a cast update for Phoebe In Wonderland. The director has finally been announced as Daniel Barnz - according to IMDB.com he only has a handful of films under his belt so far, but he's landed a dream cast on this project! Following Felicity Huffman's announcement as Phoebe's mother comes William H Macy in an as-yet unconfirmed role, and Patricia Clarkson as Phoebe's "unconventional drama teacher", Miss Dodger. Patricia also will play the mother of Dakota and Elle's characters in Hurricane Mary later this year. Rounding out the cast are Campbell Scott as Principal Davis, and Mackenzie Milone and Teala Dunn as Sally and Jenny, Phoebe's classmates who also win parts in the school production of Alice In Wonderland. Thanks to Molly, and the lovely folk at Mackenzie Milone Online for some of this info.

Variety has officially confirmed the film's star line up. In their article, it also says "Fanning plays a rebellious little girl who clashes with the rule-obsessed authority figures in her life. She seeks enlightenment from her unconventional drama teacher (Clarkson)."

Plenty of Tidbits on The Nutcracker
Variety has officially confirmed Elle's role in The Nutcracker, and revealed its full title: Nutcracker - The Untold Story. It also gives us lots of juicy tidbits that haven't been revealed before, including the fact that it will be based on the fairy story that inspired the ballet, rather than the famous ballet itself - although eight songs are being created for the movie using Tchaikovsky's score, as well as his concertos and symphonies. The article also reveals its start date of July 16 in Budapest, and a budget of $65 million!

The film is set in 1920s Vienna, and Elle will star as Mary, a little girl who is given a Nutcracker doll by her godfather one Christmas Eve. The movie will also star John Turturro as the evil Mouse King, and Nathan Lane as Drosselmeyer. A snippet from the article is below, but it's worth your while to check out the whole piece either at Variety or in our article archive.

I have been trying to make this film for a very long time, and now that CGI and technical wizardry have come so far, I can finally realize my dream," [the director, Andrei] Konchalovsky said.

New Series: Dirty Sexy Money
Dirty Sexy Money trailer Elle appears to have a part in the new ABC series Dirty Sexy Money, playing Peter Krause's daughter! Check out the trailer for the first episode of the series here. Elle appears in one scene near the beginning of the trailer. This is the second time she has played Peter Krause's daughter. The storyline for this new series, which premieres on June 1, centers around the Darling family of New York who are one of the most powerful, prestigious and wealthy families in the city. Their five adult children are constantly getting in trouble, and when his father passes away, it's up to Nick George (played by Peter Krause) to get them out of it. Check some pics from the trailer in the gallery now! Thanks a lot to Halloween_Movies_Fan at IMDB.com for the tip. It's not yet known whether Elle's character will be a regular in the series, or whether this was just a one episode appearance. The pilot filmed in NYC in late March this year, but filming on the actual series will take place in Los Angeles.

Benjamin Button Release Date
Here's a bit of news on The Curious Case of Benjamin Button: according to The-Numbers.com it has been given a release date of November 26, 2008. So it looks like we only have 18 months to wait! :) Also, here is a scrap of casting info - Elle's scenes were mainly with a woman named Eve Brent (best known for playing Jane in Tarzan). Check out this interview with her, where she talks about her part in the film. "I play the grandmother of Cate Blanchett, whose playing opposite Brad. I play her grandmother when she was a little girl. And she is played as a child by Elle Fanning, Dakota's little sister. I worked in New Orleans (I made several trips there), and I have, I think, four or five lovely scenes -- a couple that I'm really proud of."

New Phoebe In Wonderland Article
Check out this awesome article which has some great new tidbits on Phoebe In Wonderland. Bill Pullman, who appears in the movie alongside Elle, attended a benefit for a foundation providing support for people with disabilities.

He arrived at the gala, taking a day off from shooting “Phoebe in Wonderland” on Long Island, and carrying a video of still shots from the movie. The video played alongside silent auction items that included a t-shirt with the autographs of “Phoebe” actors and the movie's director, Daniel Barnz.

Pullman noted the "Phoebe" plot deepens when 9-year-old Phoebe, played by Elle Fanning, is cast in a school production of “Alice in Wonderland.” As rehearsals proceed, Phoebe begins to imagine personal visits from “Alice in Wonderland” characters. “The big fun is, as the characters from “Wonderland” appear to her, they're played by people in her own life,” Pullman said. “I'm the Queen of Hearts!” With shooting still in process, the movie has not release date scheduled.

Elle's Character in Dirty Sexy Money is Recast
Although she filmed the pilot as Kiki George, Elle has had her part in Dirty Sexy Money recast and will no longer be a part of the series, presumably due to her newly packed schedule. The pilot has still yet to air, but is scheduled for a fall debut.

The press release describes the film as a "spectacular musical fairy tale", and also reveals that "the songs and dances will be performed in various styles, including a classic love song and a fabulously jazzy Busby Berkeley tribute number."

The Nines In Venice
The Nines, a feature film in which Elle plays the mute daughter of Ryan Reynolds, will be released in Los Angeles and New York on August 31. John August, the film's writer and director, has posted a lot of great information on his official site - including the fact that the trailer is complete and will debut online this week. The film will be rated R, and a DVD is already in the works. Yesterday Variety also announced that The Nines will make its international debut at the Venice Film Festival next month. It's been selected as one of seven contenders in Critics' Week. As Elle is still in Hungary filming Nutcracker - The Untold Story, she probably won't be able to attend - the festival runs Aug 29-Sep 8.

My Sisters Keeper - A new movie
From Variety:
New Line Cinema has set siblings Dakota and Elle Fanning to star with Cameron Diaz in "My Sister's Keeper," the Nick Cassavetes-directed adaptation of the Jodi Picoult novel. Production begins this March in Los Angeles. Elle Fanning will play a young girl who sues for emancipation from her parents. Mom and Dad conceived her as a genetic match with the hope she could prolong her cancer-ridden sister's life. Jeremy Leven wrote the script, and Mark Johnson will produce. Both teamed with Cassavetes and New Line on "The Notebook." Pic marks the first time that the girls will work in scenes together on a film; both appeared in "I Am Sam." The girls are younger than they were in Picoult's novel, but a decision was made to cast them younger because it was age-appropriate for Diaz. Dakota Fanning recently completed the ensemble drama "Winged Creatures" with Kate Beckinsale and Forest Whitaker and is in Hong Kong shooting "Push," a Paul McGuigan-directed drama with Chris Evans and Djimon Honsou. Elle Fanning recently completed "Benjamin Button" and the indie drama "Phoebe in Wonderland," and she just completed "Nutcracker: The Untold Story," in which she has the starring role.
