Emma was an extra in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. She spent two days on set, when Elle was filming some of her scenes.
I was only an extra for two days. When I was there, they were doing two parts
of a shoot called "Family Day." One was inside and one was outside. On family day,
which is on Thanksgiving, I think, the families of the members of a nursing home
visit them and have Thankgiving dinner with them. Benjamin is at the nursing home,
and the young Cate Blanchette, Elle, is visiting her grandmother. The outside one
had a very cute scene with Elle. Her parents and grandmother are talking to
Benjamin, and she comes up and says, "Look what I can do, Nana!" and then she does a
cartwheel. She walks over and talks with her parents and Benjamin for a few minutes.
Then she does a cartwheel in the other direction and says to Benjamin, "Can you do
that?"
On the other day, when they were filming a scene inside, I was outside for most of
the day. They had all of the extras lined up, and two other girls and I weren't
chosen to go inside until much later that day, when it was about five o'clock in the
evening. We weren't even really in the scene, we were sitting behind a wall which
blocked the view to the table where Elle and Benjamin were sitting. However, they
took about a ten minute break, and Elle was sitting in a chair right next to where I
was sitting while she got her make-up partially re-done. The man who said the prayer
at the head of the table where she was sitting was talking to her. He had had a role
in the movie "Elizabethtown" and was talking to her about it a little. He was
telling her how in the movie they had twin boys playing the part of one little boy.
She was really surprised and kept asking questions, it was really cute. She couldn't
really understand why they would have two boys and keep switching them for one part.
I didn't really meet her. Once I gave her a little wave and she smiled back, but
that was really it. She was very cheerful the whole time and from what I could hear
when she was saying her lines, she really is a great little actress.
